Ashlyn…today I was vacuuming in the living room and moved a big black case beside the front door. That case contained the corn hole game. I remembered all the days that you and I spent — while trying to stay out of the sun’s rays — in marathon corn hole games.
I remembered how many times you sank all 4 of your bean bags into your hole—that was so exciting to see. You got so very good at playing that game—I was truly in awe at how good you got and how fast you got that good!
I’m looking forward to the next time we get to play…because I think the last time we played you were the winner. I need one more fame to try to beat you.
It’s a strange time – the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. COVID-19 has created challenges not seen before and these challenges are affecting this new school year for you.
Cedar – you’re entering the second-last year of your high school days. A historic year because with no senior class, you are effectively that senior class–you will be in the group of students who will be the first to graduate from your high school.
Ashlyn – you will be dealing with the changes necessary to keep you safe from the COVID-19 virus. Wearing masks, social distancing – these things will make this new school year very interesting. I hope that you are able to get into a good groove as soon as possible.
John – you get to use your computer to start 1st grade. I’m hoping that you get an awesome teacher and that you’ll soon be able to go to school to meet your teachers and other 1st grade friends.
To Cedar, Ashlyn and John – this blog is for you – a place where I can openly communicate with you about how much I miss and love you!
Cedar and Ashlyn–I want you to know that I am not choosing to ignore you–I’m not being allowed to freely see and communicate with you. I miss communicating with you.
John…I’m glad we are able to see you! You are such a smart 6-year-old and we love having you hang out with us.
Cedar, I miss watching you draw and paint – I’m so amazed at your talent. I see all your artwork, plastered all over the wall near the top bunk bed, in what used to be your bedroom in Gramma and my house–I’m still amazed whenever I look up at your artwork.
Ashlyn, I miss scorpion hunting with you – counting up those nightly scorpion kills we used to rack up. I also miss tossing you off my shoulders in the pool. I hope that we will have a chance to do that again soon. I miss beating you in Trouble – I miss our games that would go up to the very last pop-o-matic pop to see who would get all their pieces in the home section.
John, I’m so glad you got to come to my house 2 weeks ago and color, show us how well you can swim and play with Tuck–Tuck really likes when you play with him. I’m looking forward to the next time you can come over.
